Larkin to manage U.S. team against Puerto Rico
MIAMI -- Barry Larkin will manage the next U.S. game in the World Baseball Classic for Davey Johnson, who will be attending the wedding of his stepson.
Larkin, the bench coach for the U.S. team, will lead Friday's workout and manage Saturday night's game against Puerto Rico in Miami. Johnson will attend the wedding in St. Petersburg, Fla., and is expected to rejoin the team Sunday.
Larkin was a 12-time All-Star shortstop and 1995 NL MVP during his 19-year career with the Cincinnati Reds.
The U.S. team plays in the second round of the tournament after advancing in Toronto. Venezuela faces the Netherlands in the other game Saturday.
