Lawmakers invite public to meetings on Saturday

OLYMPIA -- Several area lawmakers will host town hall meetings Saturday, giving residents a chance to learn about potential state budget cuts, school reforms and road and ferry projects.

Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen, D-Camano Island, will hold two public meetings for those living in the 10th Legislative District.

At 10 a.m., she will meet with residents in the Stanwood Middle School cafeteria at 9405 271st St. NW, Stanwood.

At 2 p.m., she will be at the Coupeville Recreation Hall at 901 N. Alexander St.

In the 21st Legislative District, Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, and Reps. Mary Helen Roberts, D-­Lynnwood, and Marko Liias, D-Mukilteo, will take part in a public forum from 10 a.m. to noon at Serene Lake Elementary School, 4709 Picnic Point Road, Edmonds.

Education will be the focus in the first hour, with a representative of the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction on hand to answer questions about testing and proposed legislation.

The second hour will be open for a more general question-and-answer session.
