Monroe defeats Kamiak in softball
Herald staff
MONROE -- The Monroe softball team wasn't going to let a little rain cool off its offense.
Briar Stanley hit two home runs and drove in five runs and the Bearcats scattered 18 hits in a 10-1 nonconference win on a dreary Monday afternoon against Kamiak.
"We had seven girls with more than one hit, 18 hits and just one error," said Bearcats head coach Curt Eskeback. "It was a good game, we got it in."
Monroe jumped on Kamiak early for a 3-0 lead through the first three innings. Then, up 4-1 in the sixth, the Bearcats struck for six runs to put the game away.
Emily Guluarte batted 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Teammates Catherine Brakke (2-for-3 with a double), Emily Drivstuen (2-for-3) and Devan Larsen (2-for-3) also had solid games.
"There were a lot of 2-for-3's and 3-for-4's," Eskeback said of his player's stats.
Pitcher Hannah Strumther, with the help of her defense, kept Kamiak from threatening on the basepaths.
"She (Hannah) scattered six hits, but they hit the ball right at us," Eskeback said. "We played good defense."
