Stanwood: I-5 work to begin soon
The state Department of Transportation plans to fix broken concrete panels and smooth out the bumps along northbound I-5 east of Stanwood.
The department recently awarded the seven-mile project to contractor Tri-State Construction of Bellevue for $4.7 million. This project is set to employ about 45 people now through projected completion in the fall.
The project stretches from south of Highway 532 to north of Starbird Road in Skagit County.
About 59,000 vehicles and freight trucks use this stretch of the freeway each day, a transportation spokesman said. The road is rutted and cracked because of its age and heavy use.
