Clement sent down to Tacoma

Catcher Jeff Clement, who came to spring training with eyes on the backup catching job, has been optioned to Class AAA Tacoma.
It's not a surprise.
Clement's ticket to the big leagues, his big left-handed bat, didn't come around in the past month. He batted .268 with three extra-base hits in 41 at-bats, none of them home runs.
Rob Johnson and Jamie Burke remain in the running to back up starting catcher Kenji Johjima. Johnson, stronger defensively than Clement is at this point, has played well this spring, batting .414 with one homer and four doubles in 29 at-bats. Burke, popular with the pitching staff, has the disadvantage of being a non-roster player.
