Reader poll: Who is the areas best softball pitcher?

For our 2009 softball preview, Herald Writer Scott Whitmore talked to coaches about who will be the area’s most prominent pitching stars now that former local standouts Jordan Birch (Monroe), Cory Mattson (Everett) and Hillary Barker (Cedarcrest) are gone.
In the past few weeks, plenty of talented candidates have emerged. Among them is Arlington senior Christina Rayner. Monday night Rayner dominated Everett, striking out 17 during a one-hitter. Last week, I watched Rayner mow through Stanwood’s lineup for six innings before giving up a home run in the seventh and losing 2-0.
