The Forum: Whoo-hoo: It's pasties time again
By Judyrae Kruse Herald Columnist
@Drop cap Frutiger:Is it deja vu? In an Oct. 17 Forum, I wrote, "At a time when there seems to be little, if any at all, good news, I actually have some today."
While my take has been necessarily downgraded to a staggeringly short supply, if any at all, good news, I can honestly repeat the part about, "I actually have some today." And then rerun exactly what I said next in that particular column: "Pasties are back!"
Yes, it's true, the Seattle Laestadian Lutheran Church will again make these eat treats available, this time at the spring sale, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9 at the church at 22420 102nd Ave. SE in Woodinville near Maltby.
In addition to those people-pleasing pasties, the sale will feature, among other things, lots and lots of gardening goodies such as flowers, potted plants, planter boxes, hanging baskets and vegetable starts, not to mention a tempting array of homemade baked goods.
Now, about the pasties in particular. You can pre-order them, by April 19, at a discount, $3.50 each or $42 per dozen.
To order online (and for additional information about this event, plus driving directions and a map), go to springsale.weebly.com/ and click on pasties. Fill in the order form and then follow the directions given for payment.
To pre-order the pasties by mail, list your name, address and telephone number or e-mail address, along with the number of pasties and the total price, include your check or money order made payable to SLLC and mail to SLLC, P.O. Box 981, Monroe, WA 98272.
Pre-ordered pasties will be frozen and wrapped, ready for your freezer, so all you have to do is pick them up at the church May 9.
And now, believe it or not, we have even more good news. Following her initial request in the Oct. 27 Forum column, and thanks to your terrific support, Kandace Aksnes, representative for the Everett branch of the American Association of University Women, tells us, "I have come into contact with the nicest people. Their generosity has allowed AAUW-Everett to collect over 800 box tops so far.
"We adopted Index Elementary School. When I visited, I was given a tour and met the Index School District president, superintendent, teachers and students. They are all very excited about our interest in their school as well as the prospect of fund-raising support. I encourage you to log onto the Index School District Web page: www.index.k12.wa.us. It is full of hope, excitement and photographs."
Concluding, Aksnes added, "We would appreciate continuing to receive your readers' donations of Campbell soup-related products UPC codes and Box Tops for Education." They can be sent to Kandace Aksnes, 1608 202nd Place SW, Alderwood Manor, WA 98036.
