Draft Rating Index

Here's a look at how NFL teams have fared in the draft, and on the field, over the past five years. Rankings are based on how each team’s draft picks have performed during that span.

Up to six points are awarded for each player. A player receives one point if:

A) He plays in half his team’s games;

B) He starts half his team’s games;

C) He was a starter at the end of 2008;

D) He goes to the Pro Bowl;

E) He is still on the team; and,

F) He is still in the league.

The total is then divided by the number of players drafted by that team.

Here are the rankings for the 2004-08 drafts (playoff teams in CAPS):

28, Cincinnati Bengals 2.02

29, New England Patriots 1.95

Most players from past five drafts no longer in league: 15 (Tennessee)

Fewest players from past five drafts no longer in league: 4 (N.Y. Giants, Dallas, Carolina)

Best draft: Indianapolis, 2006. Got five starters among their seven picks: RB Joseph Addai, CB Tim Jennings, LB Freddie Keiaho, OL Charlie Johnson and S Antoine Bethea.
