Keeping priorities straight

No, no, no: Strapped for cash, Snohomish may retire Dixie the drug-sniffing dog.

Hey, Snohomish: Finding hidden drug stashes doesn't have to be a casualty of the recession. Pop singer Amy Winehouse will do the job free.

Priorities in Order Dept.: The French lead the world in time spent eating and sleeping, a new study says.

Americans spend about half as much time eating and drinking as do the French, the study says. We make up for the deficit by not wasting precious feeding time on table talk, red wine and small portions.

Meanwhile, the Norwegians spend the most time at leisure -- although in Norway, "leisure" is defined as time not spent contemplating suicide.

O the humanity: The recession hasn't just been tough on people. America's CEOs are hurting.

An Associated Press analysis shows the typical CEO's pay fell 7 percent in 2008 -- all the way down to $7.6 million.

It wasn't all bad. Oklahoma City oilman Aubrey McClendon, who worked his tail off helping to steal the Sonics while his company's stock price fell nearly 60 percent in 2008, took home $112.5 million.
