Regional tracks set for the weekend

Passing along a couple of releases from Grays Harbor and Montana Raceway Park.

Racing this Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway

ELMA, Wash - (May 8) - This Saturday night at the ASA Member Grays Harbor Raceway, located at the Fairgrounds in Elma will see its second event of the season. The Whitney’s Auto Group Sprint Cars, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, Triple X Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stocks and the Cruisers will all be in action an in honor of Mother’s Day, all Mothers will be admitted for half price.

Stanwood’s Jared Ridge won his first ever Whitney’s Auto Group Sprint Car main event at Grays Harbor Raceway on opening night and holds a slim 6 point lead 114 to 108 points, over Henry Van Dam from Enumclaw. Quilcene’s JJ Hickle and Tacoma’s Shawn Rice are tied for third with 104 points, followed by 2007 Sprint Car Champion Glenn Borden Jr. from Raymond with 102 points..

In the Shipwreck Beads Modified division, Shelton’s Scott Miller and McCleary’s Jeff Foster are tied for the top spot with 110 points each. Miller who had problems in qualifying started at the back of the 17 car field on opening night, and executed the winning pass coming out of turn fourth on the last lap to edge Jeff Foster.

Aberdeen’s Greg Dineen sits third with 103 points, followed by Jim Oien Jr. from McCleary with 100 points, Seabeck’s James Wolfard rounds out the top five with 99 points.

Jonathan Jorgenson from Auburn won the Triple X Ford Focus Midget feature on opening night and sits atop of the point standings with 115 points, Springfield, Oregon’s Allison Journey is 7 points back of Jorgenson with 108 points. In third place is defending Ford Focus Midget Champion Jeff Bell from Marysville with 107 points, Snohomish driver Seth Hespe holds down fourth with 100 points, followed by Edmonds driver Tony Carabello with 98 points.

Aberdeen’s Zack Simpson could be well on his way to his third Cut Rate Hobby Stock Championship in a row this year as he has started 2009, exactly where he finished 2008. Simpson set fast time, won his heat and won the 20 lap main and currently leads the point standings with 120 points, Bremerton’s Keith Knowlton sits in second with 109, followed by Chaz Wilder from Elma with 106, Derek Junell from Gig Harbor with 103 and Alan Muenchow with 100 points.

In the Cruiser division the duo of Bryan Crawford and Aaron Hurd lead the points parade with 110 points, followed by JD Boling and Ted Warner with 102. In third is Dana Austin and James Hinkley with 96 points, James Atkinson and Mike Clinger are in fourth with 92 points, closely followed by Travis and Brian Brearty with 91. Points

The front gate will open at 4:30 pm, time trials at 5:45 pm, with racing to start at 7:00 pm.

Kokanee battle of the borders at Montana Raceway Park

KALISPELL, Mont. (May 8, 2009)-Montana Raceway Park late models teams will be out to retake the 2nd Annual Kokanee Battle of the Borders 100 crown after Inland Northwest Super Stock Association driver Dave Garber picked up the premier event in 2008.


The Battle of the Borders 100-lap event scheduled for Saturday, May 9 features drivers of INSSA matching wits with MRP teams with both series scoring points towards their respective year-end championships.

INSSA’s Garber went on to win his series championship, his second in as many years, and will be back to defend his Kokanee crown. Also scheduled to appear from INSSA will be Jeff Fenton, Corey Allard, Jeff Little and Greg McKinley.

MRP representatives include Mark Owens, Agni Howell, Wrango West, Alex Lessor and Bodie Morton.

The race marks the season-opening event for the MRP late model division. Defending champion Micah Sampson will be running selected events this season opening the door for a new title holder and the end of the eight-race late model points chase.

Also on the race schedule will be Bandoleros, Thunder Roadsters and Compacts.

Pit gates open at 1 p.m. with grandstand gates set to open at 5:30 with qualifying at 6 p.m. The Kokanee Battle of the Borders 100 is set to take the green flag at 9 p.m.
