    PREP ROUNDUP: Shorewood beats Cascade in loser-out game

    EVERETT -- Cascade jumped out to an early lead, but Shorewood -- the Wesco South first seed -- battled back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and adding three more late runs for a 6-2 victory in the loser-out Class 4A District 1 baseball playoff game Monday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

    Shorewood's Bobby LeCount hit two home runs and Daniel Hammer batted 2-for-4 with two doubles. Thunderbirds starter Blake Snell shook off the two runs he surrendered in the first inning, holding Cascade scoreless until Kevin Moriarty shut the door to earn the save.

    Shorewood plays another loser-out game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Everett Memorial Stadium, facing the loser of tonight's winner-to-state matchup between Marysville-Pilchuck and Monroe.

    Lake Stevens 6, Mountlake Terrace 4: At Everett, Terrace broke up a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead in the loser-out Class 4A District 1 playoff game, but Lake Stevens answered with three runs in the top of the seventh. Joey Pulitoan batted 4-for-4 and Josh Solemsaas was 2-for-3 for the Vikings, who face either Kamiak or Snohomish at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

    Edmonds-Woodway 2, Lake Stevens 0: At Edmonds, Edmonds-Woodway (9-5-3 overall) kept its season going by scoring twice on Lake Stevens (9-8-0) in the first half of the Class 4A District 1 loser-out playoff game. Cameron Berlin-Day scored in the 28th minute from Jeremy Wentzel's throw-in, and Max Doolittle flicked a ball past Lake Stevens' goalie Michael Pierce in the 36th minute with an assist by Sean Lindsey. E-W's Nick Kratzke recorded the shutout in goal.

    Monroe 4, Mountlake Terrace 3 (PK): At Monroe, trailing 3-1 with four minutes remaining, Monroe forced overtime when Austin Cohn found Shane McDivitt off a free kick and Andrew Barrett scored on a penalty kick with 1:26 remaining. Jake Fortune (one goal) kicked the game-winning penalty kick to hand Monroe, which pulled off its eighth come-from-behind victory of the season, the win in the Class 4A District 1 loser-out game. Eric Cervantez scored two goals for Terrace and Jonathan Alvarez also scored. Terrace (8-8-2 overall) started Ben Winters in goal. Monroe started Miles Garman in goal. Monroe (12-5-0) plays the loser of today's Snohomish-Kamiak game on Thursday.
