Report: QB Heaps spurns UW, chooses BYU

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting Skyline High School quarterback Jake Heaps, who is rated by some recruiting Web sites as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country, has chosen BYU and will make the announcement Thursday afternoon.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Heaps had offers from 26 programs. He recently narrowed his list of favorites to BYU, Washington, LSU, California and Tennessee. BYU and Washington have been considered the front-runners for the past few weeks.

According to a news release issued by a publicist on Wednesday, Heaps has made his college decision and will announce it Thursday, although the time and place were not specified. A source told the Salt Lake Tribune the announcement would take place in Provo.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, Heaps, who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been scheduled for months to attend BYU's annual Junior Day, which is Friday in Provo.

Heaps is 28-0 as a starter for Skyline in Sammamish, leading the Spartans to state championships as a sophomore and a junior.
