King's hires Taylor to be new girls basketball coach

King's High School in Shoreline has hired former Meadowdale coach Dan Taylor to head its girls basketball program.

Taylor resigned as the girls coach at Meadowdale following the 2007-8 season in order to spend more time with his family and to volunteer with the Seattle Pacific women's team.

"People who know basketball in the Seattle area regard Daniel as a very gifted coach whose classy, high character approach to athletics has impressed fellow educators and coaches throughout the District," said King's assistant principal Jeff Geers in an e-mail.

Taylor, who teaches physical education in the Edmonds School District, replaces Tressa Berg, who left her position to spend more time with her family. Berg's assistant, her husband Dan Berg, also left the program.

Taylor produced a 73-11 record in three seasons at Meadowdale. His teams won two Wesco South championships and placed at state all three years. The Mavericks were eighth in Class 4A in 2006, sixth in 3A in 2007 and fifth in 3A in 2008.

    Ex-Snohomish coach promoted

John Pringle, who left the swim program at Snohomish High School when Hal Moe Pool closed (He was the pool's director.), has been promoted to head men's and women's swim coach at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass. Pringle became the school's Aquatic Director and assistant coach in May, 2008.

Pringle served as the head girls coach at Snohomish for 17 years and coached the boys team until 2001. His girls teams won 11 district and league championships as well as three straight state championships from 1998 to 2000.

    2A all-state nominees

Casey Robinett of Archbishop Murphy, Jordan Stauffer of Lakewood and Travis Cook, Craig Chittenden and Cameron Padron of state champion Cedarcrest were nominated to the All-State Baseball Series following the Northwest League/Cascade Conference feeder games Wednesday at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham. The all-state series is schedule for June 13-14 at Parker Field in Yakima.

    Softball all-stars shine

Kori Seidlitz of Mountlake Terrace helped pitch the Northwest to a 4-1 victory over East during the Washington State Senior Softball Challenge May 31 in Kent. Seidlitz and Erika Ramstead of Nooksack Valley limited the East to one run on five hits. Lynnwood pitcher Julia Nealer struck out seven batters in six innings as the Northwest lost to West Central 2-1. Jackson's Carly McEachran drove in the Northwest's sole run with a single in the bottom of the first inning. In other games, the Southwest All-Stars defeated the East 7-0 and the West Central team 5-4.
