Can we balance rights, the future
Regarding the Monday article, "Climbers could lose wall in Index":
The Index Town Wall, a natural resource that has been freely enjoyed by climbers for more than 50 years, is in danger of being destroyed by commercial interests. Here is a question we have to ask ourselves: How can we balance the claims of private property with the long-term preservation of natural resources that have been enriching our lives for generations? Like it or not, no one can own property forever, but the impact of our actions today will have irreversible consequences that will haunt us long after our property deeds (and we ourselves) have turned to dust. When considering the appropriate uses of private property, let's think beyond geographic boundaries and short-term interests and consider the needs of generations to come.
