Austin and Kevin were accompanied by family members and Carlotta Rojas, their teacher at Holy Rosary School in Edmonds. Holy Rosary is sponsoring the Peter Puget DAR Chapter whose historian, Marjory Radford, was also present. Dental group honored for charity The Snohomish County Dental Foundation was recently honored with the National Operation School Bell Award from Assistance League of Everett. The Snohomish County Dental Foundation was established as a charitable arm of the Snohomish County Dental Society to support dental related community education and projects. Assistance League of Everett's Operation School Bell program has been selected as a grant recipient for more than 12 years because of the organization's volunteer network and their ability to get dental supplies to children who need them. Everett Elks name citizen of the year Jack O'Donnell has been selected by the Everett Elks as citizen of the year for his outstanding contributions to the community. O'Donnell is a retired English teacher and author. He was presented the award by John Estie during an awards night that also honored outstanding Elks members for their contributions to the community. Student receives national PTA award Gabriel Handson, an eighth-grader at Sequoia Campus Home School Alternative, has been selected to receive a National PTA Reflections Arts Program Award of Excellence in Middle/ Junior Visual Arts category. Handson will receive a letter and certificate of participation, as well as a Silver-plated medallion and $200. His work titled, Disturbing the Peace, will join other notable awarded pieces in a virtual gallery on PTA's Web site in July. Zonta Club honors Carol Nelson Carol Nelson, president and chief executive officer of Cascade Financial Corp., was honored by the Zonta Club of Everett as the recipient of its 2009 Virginia Gullikson Award. The award is named for Zontian and Snohomish County resident Gullikson who spent her life helping others. Candidates for the award come from Snohomish County and are volunteers who have worked to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women in the county. Nelson has been recognized nationally for her success in achieving record profitability and growth. She has served as chairwoman of the board of United Way of Snohomish County, serves on the boards of Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County, Snohomish County Economic Development Council and the Leadership Snohomish County Advisory Board. She has also served as president of the Puget Sound Council of Camp Fire Boys and Girls.
