Ford vs, Chevrolet in Car Club Challenge finals

Jason Cooper of the Ford Drag Team defeats Don Berry of the Pacific N.W. Camaro club in CCCA finals.
In an evening that started off two hours late, due to a wedding ceremony at the race track, racers were stuffy & hot in the pits, and eager to get things underway. With only one practice run instead of the usual three, racers were told to get dialed-in. (That is when a drag racer writes on his window the E.T. elapsed time that he will complete the quarter mile),

It was a CCCA 1st that there were more Mopars than any other make. Usually it is Fords or Chevrolets, but not on this night. The staging lanes were filled with several beautiful new Dodge Challengers, Chargers and Magnums, as well as some Mopars from the golden 1960's.
As the night wore on, the Mopars were dropping fast. When it came to the semi-finals, it was three Fords vs. one Chevrolet. As Don Berry of Monroe waded his way through a field of Fords and Mopars, it was clear that Berry, and his 10 second Chevy II was not going to go away.
After Don disposed of his opponent Kyle Laramore, Jason Cooper moved onto
the finals by defeating teammate James Castner.
The traditional Ford vs. Chevy match-up at any racing event across the nation, can only be compared to the likes of a Dodgers vs. Yankees World Series or UW vs. WSU. For that moment in time, the Fords hate the Chevy's and the Chevys hate the Fords. It is not a personal thing between racers, just a manufactures thing, like the factory muscle cars wars of yesteryear!
Rarely does a fan have no opinion of who they want to see win, in a Ford/Chevy match-up. Not only do they have an opinion, but it is usually based in deep passion.
Cooper, who resides in Arlington, had hoped to have his 11 second Maverick back in action for this race, pulled up to the line in his Ford pick-up.
Don Berry filling the air with a smoky burnout, pulls to the line. Cooper with the much
slower dial-in time cut a good light pressing Berry to work to try to catch him. However, the ugly red light came on for Berry, ending the night for him and his Chevy Deuce.
As usual with the CCCA series, the loser congratulates the winner, as was
the case this night, when CCCA President Don Berry gave Cooper kudos.
