District, museum need to explore all possibilities

Another controversy is brewing in Shoreline about the possible eviction of the Shoreline Historical Museum from the old Ronald School building.

The Shoreline School District, which owns the property, is planning on incorporating the building into the still-in-the-works new Shorewood High School.

There are too many unanswered questions to warrant all the fuss. Is the building structurally sound for use as a school building? Is the good faith agreement between the district and the museum legal? Could the community buy the museum if it was declared surplus property? Could the building be moved to a new location?

There’s no question about saving the Ronald School building, however. With the exception of Edmonds, our county line communities are young and relatively new; the few pockets of history left among the area’s ubiquitous strip malls need to be preserved.
