The organization offered a for-women-only workshop in May about living in today's world. Now, it plans a similar workshop for men for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday at 1230 Broadway in Everett. All speakers will be men. Margaret Fowler, Volunteers of America's life skills case manager, says there is something different about the day for men. "There will be more food at this one," Fowler says. "We even have beef jerky." * * * It's nice to get fan mail. Students at Glenwood Elementary School in the Lake Stevens School District wrote notes about The Herald. Travis says we make great decisions. He likes the Good Life section. Zakeus would like to see more football and sports news. Kaleb would like to have five more sports pages. Kyle, Faith and Gunnar like Kid Scoop. Dustin uses the newspaper for art projects and spelling. Thanks to their teacher, Anne Carnell, for sharing notes from some of our favorite readers. * * * Mortgage Advisory Group in Everett works to help folks buy and keep their homes. The business also supports local arts and helps the hungry. Contribute to the business' summer food drive by leaving donations at 2902 Colby Ave. in Everett. Or bring nonperishable donations or cash to that address during the Everett Art Walk from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Bonni Tuley, marketing assistant with Mortgage Advisory Group, says employees worry about low-income children who won't get free breakfasts and lunches at school this summer. "We are excited to promote our local artists and the Everett Art Walk, as well as fill up the pantries at our food banks which are in desperate need of supplies," Tuley says. "Our company has developed a program, Mortgage Advisory Group Community Connections, which is designed to find different ways to give back to and support Snohomish County." And for every loan application approved and locked during the drive, 40 pounds of food will be donated to Snohomish County food banks. * * * Get to know Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Attend a tea party at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Washington Oakes, 1717 Rockefeller Ave. in Everett. Let them know you are attending by calling 425-514-3016. Court St. Rita, the group's local chapter, is 84 years old, member Aileen Langhans says. Nationally, the group is 100 years old.
