North County Update

Arlington: Drawing class offered to kids

Arlington High School art teacher Bev Schatz plans to teach elementary school-age children the basics of drawing.

Drawing classes are set for Monday through Wednesday in the art room at Arlington High School, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.

Kindergarten through second graders will meet from 9 to 11 a.m. and third through fifth graders have class from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The budding artists will need to bring along a No. 2 pencil and an 11-by-14-inch drawing pad.

To register and get fee information, call the city recreation office at 360-403-3448.

Marysville: Some garbage days change

The city of Marysville is changing some garbage pickup routes and days, effective July 1.

A recent study by the city showed that changing some routes could cut fuel and maintenance costs on trucks by reducing miles driven.

Pickup crews will tape notices on the lids of customers' cans if their pickup day is going to change. Customers will be notified by June 26, on their last collection day prior to the change.

Waste Management NW is working with the city to ensure that curbside recycling and yard waste are picked up on the same day as regular garbage.

If the switch in days causes a can to be missed, city crews will pick up the missed can at no extra charge.

Stanwood: Tea tasting class planned

Learn the art of identifying different teas during a hands-on workshop called Tea Tasting 101. The class is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Stanwood Library, 9701 271st St. NW.

More info: 360-629-3132.

Soap Box Derby races planned for Saturday

The second annual Stanwood-Camano Soap Box Derby is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday down 276th Street NW. The road will be closed all day. Nearly 80 cars will compete.

More info: www.stancamsbd.org.

Warm Beach: Call sent for firefighters

North County Regional Fire Authority is accepting applications for the position of part-time volunteer firefighter.

The job is an opportunity to serve the community and make a difference, Battalion Chief Christian Davis said.

North County firefighters and paramedics cover more than 100 square miles of north Snohomish County, responding to fires, motor vehicle collisions, aircraft crashes, medical emergencies and water rescues.

Applications are available at the Warm Beach Fire Station, 19727 Marine Drive, or online at www.northcountyfireems.com. Applications are due by Sept. 1.

More info: 425-754-4342.
