U.S. 2

'Safety Corridor' could use barriers

Another head-on collision on U.S. 2.

How could it be? Can't these people read the signs? U.S. 2 is now a "Safety Corridor." We even have an accident counter. There should not be any more accidents on U.S. 2.

These signs did not stop the accident east of Baring on Thursday or the fatal accident east of Skykomish on May 30, or any other accidents for that matter. (The "rumble strips" do not help either.)

We are only protected by signs designed to make us feel safe. What we really need to prevent head-on collisions is center-line "Jersey barriers" in critical areas. They have been proven to prevent cross-over accidents. They work.

Let's stop wasting money on signs and annoying little bumps to make us feel safe. Let's get real and install some physical barriers. It might even be good for the economy!
