Rescuers pluck woman from Edmonds bluff
Herald Staff
EDMONDS -- Emergency crews on Thursday rescued a woman from a vehicle that was precariously balanced about 150 feet down a steep bluff.
The woman, 52, from Lynnwood, was seriously injured in the incident, which occurred just before 10:30 a.m., and was transported by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Edmonds police Sgt. Don Anderson said.
The vehicle was stuck in the 9300 block of Olympic View Drive, Anderson said. To rescue the woman, firefighters rappelled down the cliff and removed her from the vehicle.
Rescuers then lowered the woman about 40 feet down the bluff to railroad tracks below, near the Edmonds waterfront, he said. A city rescue boat took the woman to the Edmonds Marina, from where she was taken by helicopter to Seattle.
Snohomish County's Technical Rescue Team, which includes members from the Edmonds Fire Department, the Lynnwood Fire Department and Snohomish County Fire District 1, was involved in the rescue, Anderson said.
Edmonds police are still investigating the incident, but it appears that the vehicle was parked when it slipped or rolled down the bluff, Anderson said.
