Future of Flight Center offers deal for 787's first flight

MUKILTEO -- Still searching for a spot to watch the Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner take flight?

For $10 per person, you can watch the maiden flight of Boeing's Dreamliner from a pretty ideal spot: the grassy knoll at the edge of the Future of Flight Aviation Center's parking lot, adjacent to Paine Field. Boeing hasn't set a date for first flight yet but has said it plans to put the Dreamliner in the air by the end of June. The 787 is expected to take off from Paine Field and land at Boeing Field in Seattle.

The $10 per person charge allows individuals to park a car in the parking lot at Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour in Mukilteo, said Sandy Ward, marketing director for the center. The fee also can be used toward an admission ticket to the center and tour. The $10 fee is per person, not per automobile.

The Future of Flight has 300 parking spots, which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The center will open the parking lot at 6 a.m. the day of the first flight, whenever that day is. Dreamliner enthusiasts won't be able to camp out in the parking lot the night before first flight. The lot will be patrolled to ensure that doesn't happen.

After the lot fills, individuals still can watch the flight from the Future of Flight's property, for the same $10 per person fee.

The Future of Flight also is hosting an event for donors to the Future of Flight foundation's "Partners in Innovation" program. That event will be held on the center's observation deck.

Individuals will need to have made a $250 donation to the foundation before the flight to take part on the observation deck. Businesses that donate $2,500 before the event can reserve admission for 10 employees. A $5,000 donation gets 20 slots; $10,000 buys you 40 reserved spots and parking passes. Parking for that event will be in a separate area.

For more information, go to the Future of Flight's Web site at www.futureofflight.org.
