Hear old railroad tales

Author, angler and historian Bob Heirman of Snohomish will speak at a meeting of the Darrington Historical Society.

It's planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mansford Grange, 1265 Railroad Ave. in Darrington.

Heirman will present a slide show of historic railroad photos. His book "A Railroad Runs Through It" is about his career with the Northern Pacific Railroad from 1951 to 1994 and includes a collection of stories from his years on the Darrington branch of the railroad.

Refreshments will be served.

Learn about shellfish harvesting: Members of the Camano Island Beach Watchers plan to share their strategies for successful shellfish harvesting, along with their shellfish recipes.

Bill Griffith, Duane Hoekstra and Tom Perry are scheduled to give their presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 N. East Camano Drive.
