Deputy involved in Verlot shooting is placed back on duty
VERLOT -- The Snohomish County sheriff's deputy involved in the May 29 shooting of Daniel Wasilchen has returned to duty, officials said.
The deputy and his reserve partner were placed on paid leave following the incident, which is standard procedure.
The reserve duty also has been cleared to return to patrol as his schedule permits, Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The names of the deputy and the reserve deputy were not released.
Wasilchen reportedly threatened a Snohomish County weed abatement officer who was going door-to-door seeking homeowner permission to spray. Deputies were called. When they arrived, Wasilchen had a gun. He was fatally shot.
Few details of the investigation have been released. There were no new updates, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
The Snohomish County prosecutor's office will determine if the killing was justified.
Meanwhile, the Everett police officer involved in the June 10 killing of Niles Meservey outside an Everett restaurant remains on leave as that investigation continues, Goetz said.
