Sounders waive Forrest

Kevin Forrest's stint with his hometown team came to an end just three months after it started.

Forrest, an Edmonds-Woodway and University of Washington graduate, was waived by Seattle Sounders FC Thursday.

The move wasn't a big surprise for Forrest, who has been with the team since March 24 but has not been part of the 18-man game-day roster for a regular season game.

"It was an honor to make the team in the first place," he said. "They signed me to give me an opportunity and I haven't developed as fast as they've wanted. It's the best thing for me, because sitting on the bench isn't the best way to develop as a player."

Forrest's biggest moment as a Sounder came when he scored the game-winning goal in the second half of a U.S. Open Cup win over Colorado, the team that drafted him out of college.

Forrest said his next stop will likely be in the USL, and said he thinks he may end up with the Portland Timbers.

"It is disappointing, I was hoping to make my way on the team, but then again, it's not fun sitting out every game and only practicing," Forrest said. "It's exciting to look forward to actually playing and playing in games that matter... This is definitely not the end of my ambitions to play at this level."

Evans called up to Team USA

Sounders FC midfielder Brad Evans will join the U.S. team for the upcoming Gold Cup, which includes a July 4 game at Qwest Field. This is the first call up to the senior national team for Evans, 24, who played for the U-20 national team in 2005.

Evans will join team USA for training beginning next week.

Evans is the second Sounders FC player to be called to Gold Cup duty: defender Tyrone Marshall will represent Jamaica in the tournament.
