Mountlake Terrace High School pitcher Kori Seidlitz was named a member of the 2009 Class 4A softball all-state first team. Seidlitz helped lead the Hawks to second place at the 4A state tournament.
By the way, Mountlake Terrace’s Kori Seidlitz — a member of the Class 4A softball all-state first team — finished third in voting for the 4A Most Valuable Player.

Seidlitz received 17 points, including five second-place votes that were worth three points apiece. Here is a breakdown of the MVP voting, compiled by the Tri-City Herald’s René Ferrán. First-place votes were worth five points, second-place votes were worth three points and third-place votes were worth one point.

    *****

I had a great time covering the East-West All-Star Football Game on Saturday. Congrats to the East team, which rallied to edge the West 13-12.
It was a very entertaining game, and Everett High School’s Jake Frauenholtz had an outstanding afternoon, taking home the West team MVP award. I’m already looking forward to the 2010 East-West Game, which will also be in Everett.

Enough football for now — let’s switch gears to spring sports. Like he has for the past several years, René Ferrán of the Tri-City Herald coordinated the 2009 spring all-state teams in softball, boys soccer and baseball. Here is his explanation of how the all-state teams are picked:

First-team all-league selections, as well as league MVPs (in those leagues that separate them out), are eligible for the ballot, with a few exceptions. Ballots are sent out to media throughout the state. A player must receive a minimum of two votes to be eligible for honorable mention.

OK, let’s get to it. We will start with all-state softball. I’ll follow up with posts for boys soccer and baseball later today.
