Paine Field plane spotters 'ruin' Air Canada's Olympic surprise

Posted at 12:39 pm by Michelle Dunlop

Oops.

To celebrate the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Air Canada had its new Boeing 777 painted in an Olympic theme.

The carrier planned to show off its new plane and livery at a ceremony July 8.

But plane spotters at Paine Field “unveiled” it first.

This photo alone has been viewed more than 34,000 times in the past week.

Air Canada officials saw their new jet in a YouTube video, according to this story from The Globe and Post.

“Our jaws kind of dropped," Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah said yesterday.

"It was the first time most of us had seen it ourselves. They even sent a copy to our website in Montreal."

But the Air Canada spokeswoman said the airline realizes it's pretty hard to keep a Boeing 777 out of sight.
