Boeing 787 will fly this year, readers say

Posted at 10:57 am by Michelle Dunlop

It has been a week since Boeing stunned the aviation world by again delaying its 787 Dreamliner, about a week before the jet was expected to make its maiden flight.

Since Boeing hasn’t set a new schedule yet, we asked readers to estimate when the 787 finally will have its first flight.

With more than 1,000 votes cast in our poll, Herald readers seem to be pretty confident that the 787 will fly this year.

Here’s how the poll is shaking out at this point:

  • 34 percent say the 787 will fly by the end of 2009

  • 24 percent say it will take flight in 2010

  • 19 percent are confident the Dreamliner will fly by the end of August 2009

  • 6 percent think the 787 will make its first flight by the end of next month

  • 18 percent of you say the Dreamliner will fly “when Boeing say it’ll fly.”

The poll will close at midnight.
