Books, chairs and classroom knickknacks are being loaded onto moving trucks. The school is in its final days. Next Monday, a Texas-based company is scheduled to take control of the old school. A new Lynnwood High School is being built east of I-5 on a formerly wooded lot in a residential neighborhood. The school gym and weight room are just about complete, so equipment from the old Lynnwood High School is being stored there until other parts of the school are ready, district spokeswoman DJ Jakala said. Teachers are scheduled to move into their classrooms in August. "It's been a long process to get to this point, but worth the wait," Jakala said. "I'm excited to see the kids there on the first day of school." The new school is expected to cost $99.8 million. A bond voters passed in 2006 is funding most of the project. Grants, state funds and timber sales will pay for the remainder. The athletic fields and other outdoor facilities at the old school are scheduled to remain open for a while for community use.
