Around the county

Monroe: Watch out for bogus charity calls

At least one person reported getting a call asking for donations to the Sky Valley Food Bank in Monroe. The food bank does not solicit donations by phone.

To donate, write to Sky Valley Food Bank at P.O. Box 724, Monroe, WA 98272 or call 360-794-7959.

Mukilteo: New assistant principal

The Mukilteo School District has hired Sean Monica to be an assistant principal at Kamiak High School.

He will start his new job Wednesday.

Monica was the dean of students at Monroe High School. Before that, he was a humanities teacher at Monroe High and at Frank Wagner Middle School in Monroe. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Washington and his master's degree and his administrative credential from City University.

Monica will take the position left by Laurynn Evans, who will become the principal at Rose Hill Junior High in the Lake Washington School District.

Greenbank: Festival needs volunteers

The planning committee for the annual Loganberry Festival at the Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island is looking for volunteers to help put the event together. The 20th annual event is set for July 25 and 26.

Volunteer training is set for July 11. More than 50 volunteers are needed.

More info: 360-678-7700, wine@greenbankfarm.com.

Mountlake Terrace: Ballot writers needed

The city is looking for people interested in preparing written arguments for or against Mountlake Terrace's emergency medical services levy restoration this November.

The arguments will be printed in the voters pamphlet for the Nov. 3 general election. The levy seeks approval to restore the city's EMS tax rate to 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed value.

Applicants should submit their name, address and telephone number to Virginia Olsen, city clerk and community relations director, no later than 10 a.m. July 24 at volsen@ci.mlt.wa.us or at P.O. Box 72, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043.
