Yes, they stayed after to knit at Picnic Point Elementary School in the Mukilteo School District. Librarian Troy Miller says they had no problem getting about 25 kids to delay going home. "This is the third year that they have knitted blankets for the foster kittens and dogs at PAWS (Progressive Animal Welfare Society)," Miller says. The knitting club has 35 members. They knitted 64 blankets this year. "We started with about 15 kids," Miller says. "It just keeps growing. If they are not into knitting that day, they can read or do homework. But most of them knit." u u u Evergreen Beauty and Barber College is helping women who live in shelters gain some confidence as they apply for jobs. A fashion and hair show is planned for 3 p.m. Thursday at 802 SE Everett Mall Way in Everett. Students will offer makeovers that include manicures, hair styling and makeup. "We will give little tips here and there to show cheaper ways of maintaining and doing hair and makeup," says Joe Trieu, campus director. They have collected clothing for the woman and will offer goodie bags from Office Depot including note pads and free resume printing. Costco and Applebee's are providing refreshments. Trieu says students have been working very hard to plan the event. "By the blessing, it is snowballing," he says. "A lot of folks in this community have decided to help support this event." u u u Those who watched "America's Got Talent" last week saw Erik Linder, 8, and his dance partner, Rickie Taylor, also 8, advance to the next step of competition in Las Vegas. Rickie, of Everett, and Erik, of Lake Stevens, will continue competing on upcoming shows, on NBC on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We've followed the ballroom dancers impressive career in several Herald stories. u u u "Friends of Zippy's Commons" offers Zippy's Book Group at 6 tonight at Zippy's Java Lounge, 1804 Hewitt Ave. in Everett. Jim Strickland says everyone isn't discussing the same book. "Since regular book groups require a pretty serious commitment, both in time and in reading selections, we are asking people to bring whatever it is they are already reading with a couple of good quotes to share," Strickland says.
