Hastings to present award to Wash. veteran

ELLENSBURG -- U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings will present a World War II veteran with eight medals, including a Bronze Star, he earned for his service.

Dee Eberhart of Ellensburg was deployed to France and Germany as a first scout in a rifle company until the end of the war. In 1945, his division moved on to occupation duty, where the soldiers discovered the Dachau concentration camp.

He'll receive his medals at a ceremony today at the Yakima Training Center.

Eberhart still is an active guest speaker at the Holocaust Museum in Seattle, where he relates his experiences of helping liberate those imprisoned at Dachau.
