"If you are going to be letting off fireworks, be responsible," Arlington city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. Across the country, more than 9,000 injuries related to fireworks occur each year, Northwest Insurance Council spokesman Darrin Sanger said. Here are some tips: *Always read and follow instructions listed on the fireworks. *Don't allow small children to hold lit fireworks. *Have water handy to douse hot fireworks before you dispose of them. *Light only one at a time. *Never throw or point fireworks at other people. *Don't shoot them in metal or glass containers. *Don't try to make your own fireworks. Fire officials hope people will decide to enjoy professional displays. "Save your money and also protect your house and your family," Banfield said. Fireworks may be fun for people, but they are hard on pets, Snohomish County deputy auditor Connie Barndt said. If possible, bring your pets indoors. Turn on the radio or TV to help drown out the outside noise. Don't let your pet outdoors on the Fourth. Terrified of the noise, cats and dogs often run to get away.
