Hot action on the track at Yakima Speedway

(Yakima, WA) by Kelly Hart 7/3/09, Yakima Speedway

YAKIMA -- With temperatures reaching triple digits and even hotter temperatures on the racing surface, ASA Sanctioned Yakima Speedway hosted its 2009 Fireworks Show featuring Demo cars and the CWI Security / EZ Credit Auto Sales Hornets.

In front of a packed house Josh Washington took home the Hornet main event 20 lap race. Tim Breshears set fast time on the expanded bigger track circuit laid out for the event with a 17.618 clocking.

Picking up Trophy Dash wins were Keith Erickson and Washington. The regular Heat Races were captured by Josh Parmentier and Jessica Tidrick. Julie Melville won the Powder Puff Heat Race.

There was plenty of action at the Demo Derby. After a 20 minute tussle eliminated all but the final survivor Eric Metcalf. There was plenty of racing action on the short track as well with Jake Breshears setting fast time at 18.068. The Trophy Dash winners were Mark Bess and Bryan Moser. Breshears and Donnie Stevens won the regular Heat Races. The specialty Heat Race winners were Crystal VanAmburg winning the Powder Puff Heat Race, Mark Bess besting the field in the Boat Race and track owner Ted Pollock winning the Officials Race. (ED note, Pollock is 75 years old.)

After the races the capacity crowd was treated to a 20 minute Fireworks show with music.
