What, me worry?

What, me worry?

For those concerned about the economy, these are unsettling times in Everett. Note:

The Navy, the city's No. 2 employer, is making no promises that it will replace the USS Abraham Lincoln with another carrier when it leaves in 2013 to get a fresh supply of nuclear fuel.

And Boeing, the No. 1 employer, is being equally tight-lipped about its plans for a second line for the 787, prompting fears that those jobs might fly to South Carolina.

But recent turnover in other industries might provide a new source of employment: Have you considered the exciting opportunities awaiting you as a Republican governor or U.S. senator?

---

At least they're reading: Americans apparently are looking for escapism in their reading material. Note:

Romance novels, complete with plucky heroines and torrid scenes of, ahem, "intimacy" are seeing strong sales.

Meanwhile, teens are snapping up "urban fantasies," tales of vampires, wizards and other supernatural characters set in contemporary times.

To each his or her own, but we prefer more classic, high-brow reading material. Now, if you'll excuse us; we want to get back to our back issues of Mad magazine.
