Climber reported killed in fall in Monte Cristo area

DARRINGTON – Search and rescue crews are heading to the Monte Cristo area, where they believe a climber was killed in a fall.

Rescue crews got called just after 5 p.m. today, Snohomish County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. A climber who had just returned from the area contacted rangers and reported the fatal fall.

“One of the climbers had fallen and is believed to be dead,” she said.

Crews will be using a helicopter to recover the body. The rugged Monte Cristo area is south of Darrington in the Cascade Range.

No other details were immediately available.
