Ex-state lawmaker's latest fight is against British mining giant

Paul Stocker served the people of Snohomish County in the state Legislature for four terms in the 1950s.

Now, the 85-year-old Mill Creek attorney is helping the indigenous people of Bougainville Island in the South Pacific in their court battle against a British mining company, Rio Tinto.

What's the connection? He has family living on the island and he owns property on a neighboring island.

You can find out all the details here in a story by Herald writer Chris Fyall.
