Blow your mind

Pilchuck Glass School, the internationally renowned art school tucked against a hillside in north Snohomish County, has its annual open house on Sunday.

Visitors can watch students blowing glass in the outdoor hot shop, peek inside studios and talk to the artists.

The open house is noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. It's a fundraiser for the school, so tickets are $20, unless you are a kid age 12 or younger. For reservations and directions, call 206-621-8422, ext. 34 or e-mail Helga at hhizer@pilchuck.com.

Getting from Point A to Point B: A new study out last week confirms folks in Washington, Idaho and Oregon are buying less gas and driving fewer miles.

That's not news to state transportation leaders who've seen how the change in driving habits has led to a plunge in gas tax revenues.

In the report out today, Sightline Institute in Seattle says that total gasoline consumption in the three states fell about 180 million gallons between 2007 and 2008. It estimates residents drove 643,000 fewer miles in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2007.

Talking growth: The public gets a chance to sound off Wednesday on two potential large-scale developments on opposite ends of the county: Point Wells near Woodway and a proposed mini-city near Lake Roesiger.

The council is scheduled to hear public comments on growth issues at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Robert J. Drewel building, first floor, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
