Detectives seek witnesses to U.S. 2 crash

MONROE -- Crash detectives want to speak with anybody who may have witnessed the events leading to a fatal crash on U.S. 2 Thursday between a pickup truck and a Snohomish County deputy's patrol car.

The Washington State Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team is seeking additional witnesses to the collision, trooper Keith Leary said this morning.

The crash occurred just after 4 a.m. at the western intersection with Roosevelt Road.

The man who was killed was driving a 1986 Nissan pickup. That vehicle collided with a Snohomish County Sheriff's patrol car. The deputy and a prisoner in the patrol vehicle were injured.

"Detectives are interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen any of the events leading up to the crash or if you know someone who did," Leary said.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office said Thursday it must conduct additional tests before releasing identity of the man who died.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Jerry Cooper at 360-805-1192 or detective Greg Wilcoxson at 360-805-1195.
