County councilman Cooper in hospital for dialysis

Councilman in hospital for dialysis

EVERETT — Snohomish County Council Chairman Mike Cooper has been hospitalized to undergo kidney dialysis, but plans to return to work.

“My family and I will make (a) more formal public statement, and keep you up to date when we know more about the cause, sometime next week,” Cooper said in a statement on Friday. “I am feeling well and expect to return to work after my pre-planned vacation.”

Cooper expected to leave Stevens Hospital today. The vacation was scheduled through Aug. 6. Council Vice Chairman Dave Gossett is filling in during his absence.

Cooper, 57, lives in Edmonds and represents southwestern Snohomish County. He is midway through his first four-year term. His colleagues chose him to serve as this year’s chairman.

He is married with three grown children and two granddaughters, according to a biography on the council’s Web site. He retired as a city of Shoreline fire lieutenant in 2006 and also served four terms in the state House of Representatives.
