Merchants beat Studs

TACOMA — The Everett Merchants scored four runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run by Kevin Rodland, and defeated the Seattle Studs 5-4 on Thursday.

Jace Sloan, Beau Blacken and Zach Miller also picked up RBI for the Merchants.

Tyler Rice pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning, allowing no runs and did it again in the fifth allowing two runs. Rice picked up the win and Jake Hammons notched the save.

The Merchants improved to 27-8, while Seattle fell to 35-11.

The win clinched the season series with the rival Studs. The Merchants lead the series 4-2 with one final game against each other tonight at 7 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
