Cooler weather but hot racing at Ephrata Raceway Park

By Keith Danson, Ephrata Raceway Park announcer (8/8/09)

EPHRATA, Wash -- Twenty-three degrees cooler at ERP Saturday night than it was the week before made for yet another great evening of stock car racing!

Good news is Charlie Larr is fine after his nasty crash last weekend, the ever-growing Big Car class was running again and the Soap Lake Classic Car Club made an appearance! Scheduled to race were the Pioneer Muffler 2 Adult Hornets, The Jerry's Auto Supply Hobby Stocks, The Pepsi Cola Street Stocks and the insane Big Cars! Here's who was fastest in qualifiing:

Hobby- #76 Pat Canady, Ephrata, 16.64
Street- #1 Mitch Kleyn, Quincy, 15.73

Trophy Dashes got things started after the Soap Lake Classic Car Club brought their hot rods onto the front straightaway and everyone got to get a close up look.

Hornet- #09 Dallas White, RC
Hobby- #76 Pat Canady, Ephrata
B Street- #9 Randy Pugh, ML
A Street- #21 Skyler Lessman, Ephrata
B Big Car- #84 Josh Hector, Ephrata
A Big Car- #42 Chris McCart, Ephrata

White, Canady and Kleyn were on their way to a good points night already which was only going to get better, and the Big Cars were already proving that their Main Event was going to be too much fun! Flagman Steve Lincoln easily led the way in an officials race in the Big Cars, beating Race Director Mike Hunter and Point man Josh for a fun win. Here's how the Heats turned out:

Hornet- #09 Dallas White
Hobby- #6 Russ Kain, Wen
Street- #1 Mitch Kleyn
Big Car- #6 Ray Hayne
Officials race- Steve Lincoln

Four classes, why not only have two main events? Throw the Hornets in with the Big Cars, (scary), combine the Streets and Hobbies, (eventful), and a happy audience you shall have! Mitch Kleyn was celebrating he and wife Rhonda's 11th anniversary and needed to do something special, so he jumped to the lead and never looked back. Pat Canady drove great to pass and keep hard charging Russ Kain behind him, then donated his win to those who have raced and never won- nice job Pat! Dallas White proved that even in a Hornet with total insanity happening around you that through dust and meyhem a main event can still be won, and Eddie Razey does an awesome job of driving to whip a lot of Big Cars and Pickups on a track that included 4 ute tires to drive around! Here's how the Main Events finished:

Hornet- #09 Dallas White
#37 Kapalo
#09 Michael White

Hobby- #76 Canady
#6 Kain
#29 Tanner Halley
#18 Jason Ray
#59 Mark Bush, DNF
#57 Jay Kimble, DNS

Street- #1 Kleyn
#64 Ron Stewart
#21 Skyler Lessman
#9 Randy Pugh
#1x Richy Micus, DNF
#12 Rick Bretches, DNF
#92 Mike Bise, DNF
#18 John Cook, MBF
#41 Sam Todd, DNS

Big Car winner- #19 Eddie Razey

Motocross racing will take over ERP on the 15th, check in out, I broke lots of bones doing it! on the 22nd join us for Jerry's Auto Supply Night at the Races featuring the Pioneer Muffler 2 Adult Hornets, the Thundering Hobby's Challenge and 360 Sprint Cars!
