Car plows into people at Sultan bar

Five people were hospitalized Saturday after an Everett man allegedly drove his car into people outside a restaurant.

SULTAN — An Everett man who was kicked out of the Dutch Cup Restaurant in Sultan early Saturday for starting fights got into his car and tried to run over several people in the parking lot, police say.

Five people were taken to the hospital and the man, 23, went to jail.

About 1:40 a.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Dutch Cup, according to a police affidavit filed Monday in Everett District Court.

The doorman told deputies he saw the whole thing, the court document said.

It all started when the doorman tried to break up fights in the restaurant. The suspect was asked to leave, and that’s when he reportedly got behind the wheel of his car, a maroon Toyota Camry, the document said.

The man took off, first hitting the doorman with the car’s sideview mirror. The doorman told deputies he then saw the man drive into several people, including hitting one person head-on, sending that person flying up onto the car’s windshield and bouncing onto the ground.

The violence ended when the man ran into a telephone pole, backed up, stopped the car and ran off, the document said.

Deputies found him less than a half-mile from the bar and arrested him.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of five counts of first-degree assault. A judge pro tem on Monday maintained bail at $100,000.
