HEALTH CARE

Lose public option at own risk

It appears that the Obama administration is about to cave on the public health care option to the loud, disruptive voices on the far right fringe — a group that does not have the best interests of the country in mind but rather is dedicated to seeing the president’s initiatives fail at any cost, even if that goes against their own self-interest.

Those listening to “leaders” such as Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck would do well to do some research before condemning Obama’s health care plan as “socialism” and worse. There are millions of Americans who are un- and under-insured, and a public option (emphasis on the word “option” — that means one can turn it down if so desired) would go a long way to correct the inequity, and bring the U.S. up to the standards of care we see in most other industrialized countries.

It’s time to break the insurance/pharma corporations’ chokehold on this country. Please contact your representatives and the White House and ask them to support the best interests of Americans, not the loud/ignorant and profit-driven screaming coming from the corporate interests and the far-right fringe!
