EPHRATA, Wash. -- Lots of fun all night long at ERP Saturday, but I think Toby Tobash had his fun before racing got started!
Who is Toby? The proud owner of a street legal winged sprint car that caused a stir with the local police that afternoon. He got pulled over, then had most of the force checking out his way to much fun ride! Check out Street Legal Motorsports, Toby's company for more on this traffic interupter. Gotta get me one!
On Jerry's Auto Supply Night at the Races the Pioneer Muffler 2 Adult Hornets ran along with the 360 Sprint Cars and the Thundering Hobby's Challenge Series with our local Hobby's racing the Thunder Cars from Wenatchee. Kids got to race their bicyles on the front straight to try and win brand new bikes donated by Jerry's Auto Supply and ERP.
To the racing! Here's who had fast times: Hobby- #76 Pat Canady, Ephrata, 16.53 Sprints- #Britt Lorentzen, Lake Taps, 12.99 With just two Hornets racing, it was a duel between Eddie Razey in the 1997 Escort Family Wagon and Nathan Schell's Escort. Schell won the Trophy Dash and Razey won the Heat and Main. The rest of the Trophy Dashes were won by: B Sprint- #28 Tom Beierman, Ephrata A Sprint- #2x Kurt Myers, Wilson Creek C Hobby- #69 Chris Hastings, Wen B Hobby- #25 John Klinginsmith, Marysville A Hobby- #29 Tanner Halley, Ephrata The Heat races were a sign of things to come as the fast cars did their best to get as many points as possible. The top finishers in the heats were the top finishers in the Mains. Here's how they did: Sprints- #7 Joe Smith, ML #6 Rich Fast, Mesa #2x Kurt Myers, Wilson Creek #78 Mike Fought, Othello #96 Britt Lorentzen, Lake Taps #25 Whitney Nolan, Wen #28 Tom Beierman, Ephrata #69 Butch Duren, Chenney #85 Kevin Witte, Ephrata B Hobby- #6 Russ Kain, Wen #29x John Gouze, Wen #25 John Klinginsmith, Marysville #18 Bobby Jo Jarolimek, Wen #57 Jay Kimble, ML, DNS #69 Chris Hastings, Wen, DNF A Hobby- #18 Jason Ray, Ephrata #29 Tanner Halley, Ephrata #76 Pat Canady, Ephrata #7 Steve Floyd, Wen #34 Josh McKenzie, Wen #42 Neil Nelson, George The past two race nights for Britt Lorentzen began with having problems with his Sprint Car. Both of those nights his crew was able to get the car right and Britt went on to get a fast time and even win a Trophy Dash against the NSRA guys. Saturday night nothing was wrong with the car, got fast time and was poised to go for a win in the main. First lap other cars got loose out of turn four, one touched Britt's car and into the wall he went, ending his evening. Chris Hastings had similiar luck with a wall in his main after winning a trophy dash in his very first race at ERP. Most of the luck fell upon Kurt Myers and Russ Kain. Kurt should have wrecked his Sprint Car several times during his main, but was able to keep it on track for the win. Russ had a terrible car in qualifing, but his crew nailed the set up perfect and his Hobby car ran as quick as the fastest qualifier to win his main. Here's how they finished: Sprints- #2x Myers #7 Smith #78 Fought #6 Fast #25 Nolan #28 Beierman #69 Duren #85 Witte, DNF #96 Lorentzen, DNF Hobby- #6 Kain #29 Halley #18 Ray #76 Canady #34 McKenzie #7 Floyd #29x Gouze #25 Klinginsmith #18 Jarolimek #42 Nelson #57 Kimble, DNF #69 Hastings, DNS Congrats to the #7 Hobby of Mike Sims who wins the overall in the Challenge series. Thanks to Toby Tobash for bringing his street legal Sprint Car to town and giving many plenty to talk about, and to the nice people at Jerry's Auto Supply for taking the opportunity to give away prizes to many fans and do a real good promotion for their business.
August 29th is set to be another crazy one with the Big Cars providing the entertainment at the end of the night! The rest of the night will be filled with Youth Hornets, Mini Stocks, Hobby's and Street Stocks. Gates open at 5, racing at 6!
