State crew fights 3-acre blaze near Index
INDEX — Crews were working to contain a 3-acre wildfire near Deer Creek Flats outside Index.
The fire was reported Sunday night and Department of Natural Resources crews were battling it, spokeswoman Becky Dolan said.
A Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office radio tower was threatened by the blaze but firefighting crews have been able to protect it, she said.
Officials have used two helicopters to drop water, a team of 10 firefighters to battle the blaze on the ground and a tender from Gold Bar to provide water.
Part of the fire is burning on very steep terrain, making the work difficult, Dolan said.
