HEALTH CARE

Town hall timing adds to frustration

Could it have been coincidence that Sunday's town hall meeting was scheduled at the same time as a school football game at Edmonds-Woodway High? Coincidence also that very many opponents of Rep. Inslee constituents are elderly? I am one of them.

I arrived by auto at the school at 12:30 for the 1:30 meeting. I am a disabled veteran, and there were no disabled parking spots open. I could not walk the three or more blocks to get to the meeting. I feel I have been denied my right to be heard in a public forum.

I did notice as I drove around the parking lot that the entrance was blocked by tables and a banner of the "Socialist Workers Party." Many young people were trying to hand out professionally-made signs saying "single payer now," "public option now," "health care now." A large handmade sign said "Republicans -- do you have no shame?" Does this indicates where Rep. Inslee's support comes from?

A Monday morning Herald article says Rep. Inslee will urge a public option. He must know that private health care cannot compete in the long-term with a government program that writes the rules, and has unlimited funds from we, the bankrupt taxpayers.
