Front Porch: Breakfast for Seniors

A breakfast Friday at the North Creek Retirement Community will raise money to support the Mill Creek Senior Center at its new location. The Mill Creek Senior Center, a branch of the Northshore Senior Center in Bothell, recently moved to 15720 Main St., No. 210, in the Annex Building next to Mill Creek City Hall.

The breakfast of pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, coffee, tea and juice is scheduled from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday at the North Creek Retirement Community, 1901 201st Place SE, Bothell. The suggested donation is $10. Register to attend by calling 425-948-7170.

For information about the Mill Creek Senior Center, call 425-948-7170 or e-mail MillCreek@seniorservices.org.

Mount Rainier Festival: Labor Day weekend is over, but the summer festivals continue. Well-known mountaineers Ed Viesturs, Dave Hahn and Jim and Lou Whittaker will be on hand to talk with visitors at the Mountain Festival Saturday and Sunday in Ashford.

The town is outside the southwest entrance of Mount Rainier National Park. The event is held at Rainier Basecamp, 30027 Highway 706 E., Ashford. Admission is free.

Climbers will share adventures through talks and slide shows, and will sign books. Alpine games will include speed climbing, a sled pull and erect-a-tent. On Sunday morning, there's a 5-mile trail run. There will also be mountaineering demonstrations, a supervised rock wall for children and food and microbrew vendors.
