Crews to close lanes of southbound I-5 in Lynnwood
LYNNWOOD – Starting tonight, drivers should expect overnight lane closures on southbound I-5 at 196th Street.
The closures are planned every evening through Thursday. The first lane is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. tonight and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday lanes will start shutting down around 8 p.m. All lanes will re-open by 5 a.m. the following morning. As many as three lanes will be closed at a time.
People will still be able to use the freeway to go south, but they should expect delays.
Crews are working on a safety project at the interchange. Workers are removing existing barriers and sidewalks and building work platforms on the 196th Street SW bridge.
The state Department of Transportation and the city of Lynnwood are improving safety for pedestrians and bicyclists at the interchange by building a separated pedestrian walkway.
More information about the project is available at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Snohomish/Construction
