Well, now’s your chance to take a peek inside. That construction project will soon be the site of the new Regional Visual Arts Center, a 10-year dream of the Arts Council of Snohomish County that will incorporate flexible gallery and educational space with specialized artistic production areas, complete with a hot shop and public viewing areas to watch the artists at work. The project is set to open in late 2010, but the arts council is letting the public inside for a sneak preview. The free reception and preview tour is planned for 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29, starting at the arts council gallery at the Monte Cristo Hotel, 1507 Wall St., Everett. The arts council asks that guests RSVP by calling 425-257-8380. The tour event kicks off with a special renaming ceremony. The arts council is changing its name to the Schack Art Center in honor of Idamae Schack and her late husband, John, for their dedication to the arts and cultural life of Everett. Over the years, Idamae and John Schack have donated millions of dollars to the Everett community through the Everett Symphony Orchestra, the Historic Everett Theatre, Imagine Children’s Museum, the arts council and numerous other organizations. “They have given so much and the Everett community is benefiting from all they’ve done,” said Judy Tuohy, arts council executive director. The four-story construction project includes the art center, which encompasses 19,000 square feet of the building and will be located beneath the upper levels where Artspace Projects Inc. will provide affordable housing for artists and their families. Do you know artists are the one improve the community? Usually when there are artists your property value will go up because artists invite more affluent residents into the community. I think the city planners are very smart. Everett city bring themselves up to Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond level. On the front page of this paper they are reporting that school districts don't have enough money to bus the kids to school and then we report the building of THIS!?!?
